This site contains everything that you need to know about World Tapir Day, which occurs on 27 April every year. Regardless of whether you are a hardcore tapir fan or whether you have only just discovered the world of tapirs, you will find a wide range of information on this site about World Tapir Day.

If you are new to the World Tapir Day community, you may wish to read some of the FAQs on this site to learn about the wider goals of World Tapir Day - they extend far beyond raising awareness of the four extant tapir species in Central and South America and in South East Asia.

The World Tapir Day site isn't just an information resource - it also aims to develop a community around tapir awareness and conservation. Please sign up to the Facebook group and follow World Tapir Day on Twitter and be part of the effort to save tapirs.

There is also the official World Tapir Day store, which has been created to raise funds to help support tapir conservation projects worldwide. All profits made through the shop go towards tapir conservation projects.

TRUNDLE FOR TAPIRS!

2010 World Tapir Day will see the first fun run/walk/ride/skate to raise funds for tapir conservation.

Trundle for Tapirs lets tapir fans from around the world get involved in tapir conservation through fundraising. By signing up to participate, people commit to walking or running a distance during the week in which World Tapir Day falls. Participants then seek sponsorship from their family, friends, work colleagues, or anybody else they invite to sponsor them. People can sponsor people a fixed amount or can offer an incentive by sponsoring an amount per kilometre.

WORLD LAND TRUST ANNOUNCED AS 2010 WORLD TAPIR DAY BENEFICIARY

World Land  TrustThe World Land Trust will be the beneficiary of World Tapir Day fundraising activities in 2010. Since its founding in 1989, the World Land Trust has been working to preserve the world's most biologically important and threatened lands, and has helped purchase and protect over 400,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife, in Asia, Central and South America and the United Kingdom.

All monies raised for World Tapir Day will be donated to support the World Land Trust's Ecuador Rainforest Project, which will help protect the environment of the Mountain Tapir, the most endangered of the four extant tapir species.

In addition to the funds raised, the World Land Trust is able to reclaim an extra 25% in tax on eligible donations made by British taxpayers, which means that a £10 donation by a British taxpayer is worth almost £12 to the World Land Trust.
