TRUNDLE FOR TAPIRS!

2011 World Tapir Day sees the return of the world's only odd-toed ungulate fun run/walk/ride/skate/knitting trundle.

Trundle for Tapirs lets tapir fans from around the world get involved in tapir conservation through fundraising. By signing up to participate, people commit to walking or running a distance or partaking in other activities during the week in which World Tapir Day falls. Participants then seek sponsorship from their family, friends, work colleagues, or anybody else they invite to sponsor them. People can sponsor people a fixed amount or can offer an incentive by sponsoring an amount per kilometre.

Participants walk, run, ride or skate the minimum distance to which they have committed during the week in which World Tapir Day falls. This can be done in groups or individually, outside or at the gymnasium, or wherever the activity takes place. The main thing is that they fulfill the promise that they have made to their sponsors.

After completing Trundle for Tapirs, participants collect money from sponsors. All monies raised are be donated to the 2011 World Tapir Day fund, the World Land Trust's Ecuador Rainforest Project.

To participate:

1. Read the text below ("Conditions for Participation").

2. Register using the form at the end of the page. People wishing to register for Trundle for Tapirs should do so using the form lower down this page.

Conditions for participation

It's pretty simple to take part in the inaugural "Trundle for Tapirs":

  • After registering, you will receive some information to the email address that you used to register about "Trundle for Tapirs". This will include some general information about the event, plus ideas for fundraising and getting other people involved.
  • Seek out people to sponsor you - they can be family, friends, work colleagues or anybody else you approach. Please give them the "Information for Sponsors" that you will have been emailed after registration. This information provides details about how they can sponsor you, including the URL for donating (http://www.justgiving.com/worldtapirday).
  • Record their names on the form that you will have been emailed, so that you can send it back to World Tapir Day Headquarters for statistical purposes (to see how many people donated to 2011 WTD, plus to work out who the most successful fundraisers were).
  • During the week in which World Tapir Day falls, run/walk/cycle/skate the distance to which you committed.
  • The preferred method of donation is to give people the link to the website donation page. However, if people wish to give you money directly, please collect it and then submit it using the donation website at http://www.justgiving.com/worldtapirday
  • Send the completed sponsor form back to WTD Headquarters using the email address on the form.
  • Please remember that your honesty counts - all money that you raise is donated to the World Land Trust so that it can purchase much-needed land for Mountain Tapirs in Ecuador.
